Get More Involved - Join a Committee

Wednesday, March 29, 2023 5:38 AM | Rebecca Collett (Administrator)

We would like to invite our members to get more involved with our organization. We have several committees that make up the organization. These committees help with everything from planning events to setting our speaker schedules.

Contact staff to get plugged in.

We have an immediate need for members on the Nav/Ops Committee. John Cameron is the Chairman for the quarterly meeting of this committee. This team will have input on looking for programming, topics, and speakers in advance.

We are also looking for people to join our Legislative Committee. This committee works on legislative issues impacting the maritime community and engages our lawmakers when needed.

Legislative Committee Charter:

Purpose: The role of the Legislative Committee (the “Committee”) is to seek opportunities and/or threats to the Association membership and advise the MASC Board of Directors on the appropriate stance to take that will strategically position the Association and its members in the best situation.

Scope: The Committee is responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to stay engaged with elected officials to remain current with issues (rules, regulations, etc) that can have an impact on the maritime and supply chain industry.

Specific Tasks: The Committee will track issues that impact the Association membership, recommend a position/action, find opportunities to engage with elected officials and collaborate with the Waterfront Collective and other industry groups on issues as appropriate.

Agendas: Meetings will be held at least quarterly. Agendas will be provided as a read-ahead to all attendees no less than one day prior to each meeting. Meetings will be limited to one hour. Meeting notes will include documentation of key points made (decisions, positions, agreements), documentation of action items and office/person of primary responsibility, draft agenda items for next meeting, and issues for higher resolution. Meeting notes will be taken by Committee members and distributed to all Association members immediately following each meeting. Additionally, the Committee Chair will provide briefings to the MASC Board of Directors.

Deliverables: The Committee will establish a pipeline to identify, prioritize, and establish a timeline for the work effort associated with Committee responsibilities. This pipeline will be shared with the Board of Directors and subsequently followed for development of identified deliverables. The pipeline shall be maintained regularly, and the most current version shall be included in the quarterly briefings.
